Update your light's software
Updated yesterday
Each smart light runs its own small piece of software, and we send updates to it through the app. Most lights never need you to do anything, but you can check any time.
Check for an update
- Tap the light on Home to open its controller, then tap the ⋯ at the top right.
- Tap Check for updates. It answers Up to date, Update available or Couldn't check.
- If it says Update available, tap the row again to open Software updates, then tap Update and confirm.
The light goes dark for about a minute while it updates. Keep it switched on at the wall until the app says it is done.
"Couldn't check"
The light is not answering right now, usually because it is offline or your phone has no connection. It is not a fault. Try again in a moment; if the light stays offline, see A light shows offline.
"That update did not go through"
Leave the light switched on and try again in a few minutes. If it fails a second time, contact us with the tech details for that light.
The app itself
Keep the MOD LIGHTING app up to date too. Updates come through the App Store and Google Play, and several fixes, such as the colors on RGB lights, live in the app rather than in the light.
