Pair the remote to your light
Updated yesterday
A smart light answers only the remote paired to it. Out of the box the two come paired: put the battery in and it works. You only need these steps after a controller swap (the conversion kit), a replacement remote, or if you have unpaired a remote.
These steps are for the Haylen (Smart Lights), the Haylen RGB (Smart Lights) and the conversion kit remote. For any other light, use the remote guide that came with it, or find it under Installation Guides.
Pair the remote
- Switch the light on at the wall and let it come up fully. It fades on slowly.
- Switch it off at the wall for 5 to 10 seconds, then back on.
- Within 10 seconds, press and hold ON on the remote until the light blinks three times, then let go. The small light on the remote should be lit while you hold.
- Press any button on the remote. The light should answer. If nothing blinked, switch off at the wall and start again from step 2.
Unpair a remote
If a remote runs a light it should not, do the same power cycle, then press and hold OFF until the light blinks three times.
One remote, several lights
If holding one remote makes several lights blink, that remote is paired to all of them. That is fine for everyday use, but the app pairs one light at a time, so give each light its own remote first: switch every other light off at the wall, unpair the remote that should not run it, pair the right one, then move to the next light.
Good to know
- Use the remote that came with that type of light. A Haylen RGB remote does not pair with a Haylen Smart, and the other way round.
- After a conversion kit, the old remote no longer applies. A converted light that stays on one color and ignores the old remote is expected. Pair the new remote.
- On the Haylen (Smart Lights), the remote moves between warmer and cooler white. Colors are for the RGB version.
- Once the remote controls the light, you can pair the light to the app: Pair a light to the app. The remote's pairing button is what puts the light into pairing mode, so the app has nothing to find until the remote works.
