Frequently asked questions about Modern Flush Mount Lights

A flush mount gives a standard eight-foot ceiling its full light without spending any headroom on a drop. The range runs from clean low-profile discs to semi-flush pieces with a few inches of presence.

Flush and semi-flush ceiling lights

A flush mount sits tight to the ceiling, while a semi-flush drops a few inches and reads more like an object. Chloe is built from two to six circles and Clara from two to six rings, both starting around 22 inches. Arina sets crystal into a ceiling-hugging form, and Harris runs a track of one to five heads for a hallway or a task wall.

Sizing and height

Add the room's length and width in feet and read the sum as inches of fixture, so a 10 by 12-foot bedroom takes a light around 22 inches across. Flush mounts suit ceilings of 8 feet or below; semi-flush designs work up to about 9 feet. Dimming varies by design here, so check the Dimensions & Specs tab on the product page.

Rooms and finishes

Bedrooms, hallways, entries and laundry rooms are the natural rooms for a flush mount, keeping the ceiling clear where a hanging fixture would crowd it. Finishes pair across the range, metallic gold with black ash on some pieces, brushed gold with matte black on others. In a bathroom, set a semi-flush overhead and put vanity lighting at the mirror; where there is height to spend, use pendants or a chandelier instead.

Size to the room first, then let the ceiling height decide flush or semi-flush.
