Bathroom lighting gets one job right or it gets nothing right. Even light across the face, no shadow under the eyes, no hot spot on the forehead. Everything else comes after that.

Task lights for the mirror

Zena is a slim horizontal bar, 24 inches long, sized for a single-sink vanity. Hazel runs four bulbs in clear glass shades, Sienna flares three. Aurora sets three circular lights on a base, Willow squares them into cubes, and Harris is the track option, a custom run of one to five adjustable heads. Every light here runs warm white at 3000K.

Sizing, height and light quality

Size a bar to about 75 percent of the mirror's width, centered 75 to 80 inches above the floor. A flanking pair sits at eye level, 60 to 65 inches up and 36 to 40 inches apart, which removes the shadow a single overhead source throws under the eyes. Most of this range renders at CRI 90 and pairs with a standard wall dimmer.

Finishes and the layers around them

Matte black and brushed gold run through the range, so a bar in the main bathroom and a pair in the powder room still read as one family. For the ceiling layer, the bathroom lighting range picks up the same finishes, and bathroom wall lighting carries them along the rest of the wall.
