There is a moment in every well-designed living room when someone walks in, looks up, and everything makes sense. The furniture, the palette, the objects — all of it coheres, and the eye understands why. That moment is almost always created by the lighting. And in the living room, no single fixture has more power to create it than the right chandelier.
A chandelier is not a luxury. It is the design decision that anchors every other element in the room and gives the space its atmosphere, its scale, its personality. This is our curated edit of the 15 best living room chandeliers from MOD Lighting — chosen for design quality, versatility, and real impact. Browse the full living room lighting collection for instant inspiration, or read on for the expert guidance that makes the right choice obvious.
Before you shop, a few fundamentals will make every other decision easier. Get these right and the perfect chandelier becomes obvious.
Add the room’s length and width in feet. That total in inches gives a reliable starting diameter. A 14 x 18-foot room suits a chandelier around 32 inches wide. Always go up if you’re between sizes — an undersized chandelier is the most common living room mistake and the hardest thing to overlook once you’ve noticed it.
The bottom of the chandelier should hang at least 7 feet above the floor. For ceilings above 8 feet, add approximately 3 inches of drop for every additional foot. Every circuit should be on a dimmer switch — without one, you’re locked into a single light level that rarely works for every occasion.
The chandelier should speak the same visual language as your room — not match it literally, but share its sensibility. A room built around clean lines and natural materials calls for restraint. A more confident, layered room can carry a sculptural or statement piece.
Brushed gold and brass are the most versatile warm-toned finishes, pairing beautifully with natural materials. Matte black delivers bold graphic precision. Crystal adds luxury without formality when set in a contemporary structure. Alabaster (as in the Alba) produces a softly luminous, naturally diffused glow that no manufactured material can replicate.
Every chandelier below is available now from MOD Lighting. Each entry links directly to the specific variant — the exact size and colour temperature we recommend for living rooms. Browse the full modern chandelier collection to see every option.
01. Celestial · Luxury Crystal · Gold · X-Large
Celestial is a showstopper built on the most enduring luxury material there is: crystal. This modern crystal chandelier is made with gold-finished metal plates that support high-quality crystals that scatter prismatic light across every surface. Available in four sizes — the X-Large variant is the living room recommendation for most standard to large rooms. The light it produces has a warmth and animation that no plain LED fitting can match.
Best for: Living rooms where the brief is genuine luxury. Strongest in rooms with neutral palettes, warm woods, or soft furnishings where the crystal reflections have surfaces to play on.
Style: Contemporary luxury. Crystal without formality. Works across both traditional-modern and fully contemporary interiors.
03. Alba · Solid Brass · Natural Alabaster · Large
Alba is the most materially distinguished chandelier in this list. Solid brass and natural alabaster are two of the most desirable materials in contemporary interior design, and Alba uses both with quiet confidence. The alabaster layers create a softly luminous effect — the light glows through rather than from the fitting, producing a warmth no other material can replicate. Brushed gold finish. Three sizes; Large recommended for most living rooms.
Best for: Interiors where material quality is the design language — rooms with natural stone, solid oak, linen, and plaster. Works beautifully in Japandi, contemporary artisan, and refined modern spaces.
Style: Organic luxury. Artisan-quality materials. One of the most genuinely distinctive choices in the MOD range.
04. Bailey · Scandinavian Minimalist · Handmade · 10 Orbs
Bailey is handmade, and it shows — in the right way. Glass globes and metallic elements are combined with the restraint and warmth of Danish modernism, producing a fixture that looks considered rather than manufactured. The 10-orb configuration fills a living room space generously without visual weight. Its natural material character brings warmth to rooms that might otherwise read as cold.
Best for: Scandi and Japandi-influenced living rooms. Rooms built on natural materials — pale oak, linen, stone. Spaces where craft and material honesty are part of the brief.
Style: Minimalist Scandinavian. Handmade quality. Works in almost any contemporary interior that respects material character.
05. Obsidian · Black Crystal · Contemporary Luxury · X-Large
Obsidian makes its case through contrast: a sleek black finish paired with gleaming crystal accents that catch every photon in the room. It fuses contemporary design with timeless luxury in a way that feels genuinely current — not pastiche. The X-Large variant is designed for living rooms where the fixture needs to command a large space with presence. A matching mini-pendant style is also available to extend the look across rooms.
Best for: Living rooms with dark, high-contrast, or richly coloured styling. Rooms that want luxury with an edge. Works in contemporary, art deco-influenced, and moody interiors.
Style: Contemporary luxury with a dark edge. Dramatic. Pairs best with rich fabrics, dark palettes, and rooms built for evening.
06. Skyla · Multi-Ring Hanging · Black · 15 Rings
Skyla is a breathtaking work of art that earns its 15-ring configuration completely. Made from premium aluminium, each ring is individually adjustable, creating a mesmerising interplay of light and shadow as the rings cascade downward. In black, it delivers bold graphic impact; the adjustable wires mean it adapts to ceiling height and room scale. Available in 10, 15, and 20 rings; compatible with slanted ceilings.
Best for: Design-forward living rooms with high ceilings and strong architectural character. Dining rooms that want something genuinely sculptural above the seating group.
Style: Sculptural modern. Premium aluminum. One of the most architecturally distinctive chandeliers in the collection.
07. Aurelius · Sculptural LED · Jet Black Double Layer · Large
Aurelius is not subtle, and it doesn’t pretend to be. The jet black double-layer large configuration is the most commanding version of this already-striking design: an LED band illuminates spiky, sculptural metalwork in a form that reads like a three-dimensional drawing suspended from the ceiling. Bold, industrial, and unapologetically striking. Adjustable height up to 59 inches; compatible with slanted ceilings.
Best for: Maximalist and industrial-modern living rooms. Rooms with the confidence to put something genuinely unexpected on the ceiling. Pairs with raw materials, dark woods, and graphic textiles.
Style: Industrial sculptural. LED-integrated. The largest, most commanding version of one of MOD’s most distinctive designs.
08. Indra · Crystal Droplet · Spiral Form · Dimmer Compatible
Indra is where cascading crystal meets modern spiral design. Individual crystal droplets hang on adjustable wires from a spiral structure, creating a fixture that is simultaneously architectural and luxurious. The adjustable wires mean every installation can be customised — the droplets can be set at varying heights to create depth and movement. Available in 5 sizes from 8 to 49 droplets; compatible with slanted ceilings.
Best for: Living rooms that want genuine crystal luxury in a design that feels contemporary rather than traditional. Also works well in contemporary master bedrooms. Particularly effective in rooms with natural light — daytime prismatic effects add an entire dimension.
Style: Contemporary crystal luxury. Adjustable spiral form. One of the most versatile and visually animated chandeliers in the range.
09. Hailstone · Modern Gold Crystal · 5 Stones · Warm White
Hailstone brings crystal to the contemporary home on its own terms — without the formality of traditional designs. Crystal elements are set within a refined modern structure, the result of which is a fixture that reads as luxury without committing to a traditional aesthetic. The 5-stone warm white configuration is the living room recommendation: enough presence to command the space, enough restraint to let the room breathe.
Best for: Contemporary living rooms that want a touch of crystal luxury without the traditional chandelier aesthetic. Works well as a focal point in rooms that are otherwise modern in style.
Style: Contemporary crystal luxury. Approachable and refined. Adapts to the room rather than dictating to it.
10. Onyx · Luxury Crystal · Black Onyx · Gold · Medium
Onyx fuses three distinct elements into one stunning piece: black onyx, metallic gold, and clear crystals. The cone-shaped design cascades beautifully and draws the eye upward, making it particularly effective in rooms with ceiling height to use. Available in four sizes from small to x-large; the medium is the living room starting recommendation for standard ceiling heights. Premium crystal and iron materials.
Best for: Living rooms with ceiling heights above 9 feet. High-contrast, richly styled rooms where the three-material combination has surfaces to play against.
Style: Luxury crystal with sculptural cone form. Three materials in one design. Recommended for high-ceiling or formal living rooms.
11. Helia · Post-Modern Minimal · 35 Lights · Black Ash
Helia proves that high-impact style doesn’t require a high price point. The 35-light black ash configuration is a genuinely impressive fitting — clean post-modern lines, dimmable LED, and a black ash finish that suits a wide range of contemporary interiors. Multiple size options mean it adapts to almost any living room. One of MOD’s most consistently well-reviewed and popular designs.
Best for: Any modern or contemporary living room. Works across Scandi, Japandi, and contemporary-minimalist styles. Particularly good for rooms where the lighting needs to support rather than dominate, because it creates a clean, beautiful ambience.
Style: Post-modern minimal. Versatile. One of the safest and most reliably beautiful choices in the entire collection.
12. Kasper · Modern Rainfall · Silver · 8 Lights · Dimmer Compatible
Kasper’s rainfall design creates a dazzling display of light through its multi-tiered structure. Available in gold, silver, or black, with 6 size configurations from 5 to 32 lights — the 8-light silver variant is the living room recommendation for standard-ceiling spaces. Compatible with slanted ceilings; adjustable hanging length. The silver finish adds a cooler, more contemporary note than the gold variant.
Best for: Contemporary and modern living rooms where the brief is for a fixture with drama and movement. The silver finish suits rooms with cooler palettes and contemporary materials.
Style: Modern rainfall design. Silver finish. Available in a wide range of sizes for any ceiling height.
13. Jasper · Modern Gold · Staircase Chandelier · 10 Lights
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, Jasper is a gold LED staircase chandelier with a timeless design that blends with a variety of décor styles. Individual adjustable wires for each light element allow complete customisation of the hang profile. Compatible with slanted ceilings. The 10-light configuration works well in living rooms with generous ceiling height; larger configurations serve double-height spaces.
Best for: Living rooms with ceiling heights above 9 feet. Grand or open-plan spaces where a multi-element pendant creates the vertical interest the room needs.
Style: Modern gold staircase form. Adjustable per-light wires. Works in rooms that want elegance and height without overtly dramatic design.
14. Janet · Floating Ring · Black Ash · 3 Rings · Adjustable
Janet captures the essence of modern elegance through its floating ring design. The 3-ring black ash warm white configuration is perfectly scaled for most living rooms — the rings can be individually adjusted in height and orientation, meaning no two installations look quite the same. The result is a fixture that feels genuinely bespoke and speaks to rooms that value individuality over formula.
Best for: Design-conscious living rooms where the brief is for something flexible and individual. Works in contemporary, Japandi, and relaxed modern interiors. Excellent for rooms where standard chandelier formats feel too prescribed.
Style: Contemporary adjustable. Individually configurable rings. Black ash and gold — a refined material combination.
15. Kendall · Contemporary Candelabra · Black · Adjustable Candles · Dimmer Compatible
Kendall is the most quietly timeless chandelier in this list. Inspired by the classical candle chandelier with a touch of gothic restraint, it takes that centuries-old form and strips it back to its pure essentials: clean lines, black finish, and individual candle elements whose direction can each be adjusted to suit the space. Available in 12 or 24-candle configurations in even or mixed lengths, it uses replaceable G9 LED bulbs and is fully dimmer switch compatible. The result is a fixture that effortlessly adapts to any concept and stays relevant across years of changing interiors around it.
Best for: Transitional, classic-modern, and eclectic living rooms. Rooms that want a chandelier with genuine design heritage that works across many interior styles without demanding attention. Particularly effective as a timeless choice for homeowners who redesign around a fixture rather than replacing it.
Style: Classic-modern candelabra. Timeless and adaptable. Adjustable candle directions make every installation unique. The safest long-term choice in the collection for buyers who want a fixture that outlasts trends.
A high ceiling is an opportunity most homeowners under-use. The answer is always scale — and more of it than you think. For ceilings above 9 feet, add 3 inches of chandelier height or drop for every foot above 8. Don’t compensate with width alone — vertical scale matters as much as horizontal presence in a tall room.
The biggest mistake in a high-ceiling living room isn’t going too large — it’s staying too small.
Onyx’s cone-shaped cascading design was made for rooms with ceiling height to use. The extended drop fills vertical space with something genuinely beautiful: black onyx, metallic gold, and clear crystals in a descending form that draws the eye upward and holds it there. Available up to X-Large for the most generous spaces.
Kasper’s rainfall multi-tier design is purpose-built for spaces with room to fall. The larger configurations (18, 26, and 32 lights) can fill double-height spaces with a rain of illuminated elements that reads as genuinely architectural. Compatible with slanted ceilings.
Jasper’s per-element adjustable wires allow the hang profile to be shaped to the room — a feature that becomes especially valuable in high-ceiling spaces where the fixture needs to fill a specific vertical zone. Gold finish suits rooms with warm-toned material palettes.
Finn’s precision-suspended design creates a mesmerising display of soft illumination across its full drop. The 9-light configuration reaches its maximum vertical impact in double-height living rooms and foyers. Compatible with slanted ceilings; adjustable per-light wire.
A small living room doesn’t disqualify a chandelier — it demands a smarter one. Look for compact designs (18–24 inch diameter) with strong visual character and a finish that adds presence without bulk.
Helia’s clean lines and wide size range make it the most space-intelligent chandelier in the MOD collection. The smaller configurations are specifically proportioned for rooms where ceiling height or floor area is limited — and the post-modern clean form earns its place without overwhelming.
Bailey’s Scandinavian restraint suits smaller spaces naturally. The glass globe form creates presence without bulk, and the handmade quality reads as considered rather than compromised — exactly the register a small room needs from its central fitting.
For rooms with ceilings below 8 feet, consider a flush or semi-flush chandelier-style fitting from our ceiling lights collection — many designs deliver chandelier-level visual interest without requiring drop clearance.
Modern chandeliers prioritise restraint. Bailey, Helia, Janet, Kendall, and Alba speak the language of considered contemporary design — beautiful, confident, and never distracting. They complement the room rather than commanding it.
Statement chandeliers are designed to be noticed. Celestial, Athena, Aurelius, Obsidian, and Skyla all make strong visual declarations. They work best in rooms built to support them — spaces with strong architecture, confident colour, or deliberately restrained furniture.
The question to ask: do you want guests to notice the room, or the chandelier? If the answer is the chandelier, go statement. If the answer is the room, go modern. Explore more ideas in our modern chandelier ideas guide.
A chandelier is ambient light — it fills the room with general illumination. Left alone, even the most beautiful chandelier creates a flat overhead wash that removes depth and kills atmosphere. The chandelier works best as the foundation of a layered scheme.
Add floor lamps in the corners of the room, table lamps at sofa height, and wall sconces to draw light across the walls. Set every circuit on its own dimmer. Run the chandelier at full brightness for daytime; dial it back in the evenings and let the lamps create the warmth. The result is a room that feels completely different at different times of day — both versions intentional, both versions beautiful.
