Frequently asked questions about Dining Room Chandeliers
What size chandelier does a dining table need?
What light quality is best over a dining table?
How high should a dining room chandelier hang?
Which finish should I choose for a dining room?
Are dining room chandeliers dimmable and hardwired?
A dining room is the easiest room in the house to get right, because it has one job and one focal point. The chandelier hangs over the table, the table sits under the chandelier, and everything else follows. Get the scale right and dinner feels like an occasion on a Tuesday.
What a dining room asks of a chandelier
The table decides everything: the width of the piece, how low it hangs, whether it is round or linear. A round table takes a round piece centered over it; a long table takes a linear piece or a row, so the light runs the length of the surface and nobody at the end sits in shadow. Forty-five of our chandeliers are made for that spot. Ring is a single gold halo at 60 or 80 cm, Charlotte and Janice stack rings, and Aurelius bends steel into a loop. Alba and Velina hang alabaster in brass, Sunrise and Sunset pair brass with crystal, Obsidian and Raven set crystal in black, and Amara and Liora are hand-knit bamboo for a softer table.
How to choose the right size
Size to the table, not the room: half to two-thirds of the table's length, so a 72-inch table takes a piece 36 to 48 inches across, and about 12 inches narrower than the table at its widest. Hang the bottom 30 to 36 inches above the surface, low enough to light the food and high enough to see across it. Ceiling height decides the drop available: 30 of the 45 are tagged for 10 to 12-foot ceilings, 7 for 9 to 10, and 7 for 8 to 9, where Ring or Arina keeps the sightline clear. Forty are tagged for angled ceilings.
Styles and rooms across the range
Crystal and gold are the formal end: Sunrise, Sunset, Janice, and the wider crystal chandeliers range. A single ring or loop is the modern one, and the ring chandeliers page holds all six. Alabaster and bamboo suit a table with a wood top and linen chairs. The rest of the room lives in the dining room lighting collection, where the pendants and wall lights that finish a sideboard or a serving wall sit alongside.
Every one runs warm white, and 40 of the 45 dim from the wall switch. Measure the table first; the chandelier follows the table, never the room.
