The answer depends on your skill level, the complexity of the project, and your comfort with electrical work. Let’s break down how to make the right call.
If you’re confident with basic tools and electrical safety, certain lighting projects can be manageable for a homeowner.
Replacing an existing light fixture with another of similar style and weight—such as swapping a flush mount for a modern MOD LIGHTING ceiling light—is often straightforward. As long as you’re not altering wiring or electrical circuits, the process usually involves disconnecting the old fixture, connecting the new one, and securing it in place.
To make the process even smoother, MOD LIGHTING provides step-by-step installation guides and instructional videos for many of our fixtures, so you can follow along with confidence.
Floor lamps, table lamps, and other plug-in fixtures require no wiring changes. Simply position them where you want, plug them in, and enjoy an instant style upgrade.
Our Angelica Table Lamp combines luxurious brass craftsmanship with a modern silhouette—perfect for desks, nightstands, or accent tables. For a bolder statement, the Pearl Floor Lamp offers a Nordic-inspired gold stem adorned with frosted glass spheres, bringing mid-century sophistication to any living space.
Meanwhile, the Ora Table Lamp blends stainless steel and natural alabaster for a luminous, sculptural look that elevates any room.
Each of these designs is installation-free—you can transform your space in minutes without an electrician.
Electrical work involves risks, and certain projects should only be handled by a licensed professional.
If your project involves installing a light where none previously existed—or adding new switches and dimmers—this will require new wiring. For safety and code compliance, this is a job for an electrician.
Large chandeliers, multi-tier pendant arrangements, and other heavy fixtures not only need careful wiring but also secure ceiling support.
Our Kendall Chandelier offers a contemporary take on the classic candle-style design, complete with dimmer switch compatibility, adjustable angles for each candle, and replaceable G9 LED bulbs. Its striking silhouette makes a stunning statement, but due to its size and installation complexity, professional installation is highly recommended.
Lighting in bathrooms, patios, or pool areas must be installed with moisture-resistant wiring and fixtures rated for damp or wet locations. Incorrect installation can be dangerous and may void warranties.
Our Haylen outdoor wall light, for example, is specifically designed for wet locations, combining sleek modern style with weather-resistant durability—making it ideal for safely illuminating entryways, patios, or poolside areas.
Whether you DIY or hire a pro, preparation is key:
