Frequently asked questions about Alabaster Sconces
What size alabaster sconce do I need?
What light quality does alabaster give?
How high should an alabaster sconce hang?
Which finish do alabaster sconces come in?
Are alabaster sconces hardwired and dimmable?
Alabaster is the one material that improves when you turn the light on. Off, it is pale stone. On, it goes translucent, and the veining shows through as shadow. On a wall, at eye level, that is a small daily pleasure, and a pair of them either side of a bed or a mirror is the easiest upgrade a room can get.
What alabaster does on a wall
It glows instead of shining. The light is inside the stone, so there is no bulb in view and no glare at eye level, only a warm surface with the veining drawn across it. That is why alabaster is the bedside and vanity material: it is the light you look straight at. Alba and Velina set alabaster in brass, Alba in two sizes and Velina in layered panels. Rhea is a single alabaster shade in gold, Nala stands one vertically, Seraphine adds crystal, and Arabella swaps alabaster for travertine stone. Four of the six sit in the alabaster collection with the chandeliers and pendants in the same stone.
How to choose the right size
Scale the sconce to what it flanks: about one-third the height of the mirror or the headboard, usually 10 to 18 inches tall, with the projection under 5 inches in a hallway. Alba comes in two sizes for that choice; the rest come in one. Mount the center 60 to 65 inches from the floor beside a mirror, and drop to about 48 inches at the bedside so the light falls on the page. All six are wall-mounted and tagged for any ceiling height.
Styles and rooms across the range
Beside a bed, a matched pair of Rhea or Alba; beside a mirror, Nala's vertical shade or Seraphine's crystal; in a hallway, Velina's layered panels repeated every 8 to 10 feet. Five of the six also sit on the bathroom and vanity lights page. Where the room wants sparkle instead of glow, the crystal wall sconces page is the alternative, and the bedroom wall lights page holds every bedside option.
All six are hardwired, warm white, finished in gold, and dim from the wall switch. Buy them in pairs, hang them at one height, and put both on the same dimmer.
